Dr Edward Bach (1886-1936) was a Harley Street physician, bacteriologist, homoeopath and researcher. Despite the success of his work in orthodox medicine, Dr Bach believed that the state of mind of the patient played a vital role in maintaining health and recovery from illness. He also felt dissatisfied with the way doctors were expected to concentrate on diseases and ignore the whole person. So in 1930 he gave up his lucrative practice and left London to devote the rest of his life to developing a new system of healing he felt sure could be found in nature. The result was the discovery of flower and plant based remedies.
Dr Bach identified 38 basic negative states of mind and created a corresponding flower or plant based remedy to counteract each one. This safe, simple and pure method of healing took into consideration the individual’s mental and emotional state. Dr Bach found that certain flower essences stimulated self-healing in his patients by clearing negative emotional factors.
Dr Bach maintained that illness was a call from our bodies to change our way of living and improve our mental outlook. The primary purpose of the flower remedies is to help bring us back to a genuinely happy experience of life. These gentle remedies have been used throughout the world in the nearly 80 years since his death.
